What is a dual degree at DLI?

A dual degree at Deakin University Lancaster University Indonesia (DLI) is a single three-year undergraduate program that leads to two separate bachelor’s degrees: one awarded by Deakin University in Australia and one awarded by Lancaster University in the United Kingdom. You study one integrated program at the Bandung campus, and on graduation you hold two internationally recognized qualifications – the same awards conferred by each university.

Globally recognised degrees, flexible entry

The foundation program has been specifically designed for Indonesian students. It aims to prepare you for entry into the first year of a Deakin University Lancaster University Indonesia dual award bachelor degree.

The dual degree programs designed for Bandung take modules from one Lancaster University degree and one Deakin University degree to create a single body of study that satisfies the requirements of both individual degrees.

Dual Degree FAQs

What is the difference between a dual degree, a double degree, and a joint degree?

These terms are often used interchangeably, but they mean different things:

  • A dual degree, as offered at DLI, is one integrated program of study that satisfies the academic requirements of two universities at the same time, so you graduate with two separate degrees in three years.
  • A double degree usually means studying two separate programs (often in different fields) and completing the requirements of each, which typically takes longer than a single degree.
  • A joint degree is one qualification issued jointly by two universities — you receive a single certificate with both names on it.

Will I receive two separate degree certificates?

Yes. DLI graduates receive two separate testamurs (degree certificates): one issued by Deakin University and one issued by Lancaster University. Each can be independently verified with the awarding university.

How can one program lead to two degrees in only three years?

DLI’s dual degree programs were designed jointly by Deakin University and Lancaster University. Each program takes modules from one Deakin degree and one Lancaster degree and combines them into a single curriculum that satisfies the graduation requirements of both universities. Because the two universities agreed the curriculum together — rather than a student completing two unrelated programs — the full set of requirements can be met within three years of full-time study (three trimesters per year).

Are DLI's dual degrees recognized by the Indonesian government?

Yes. DLI’s dual degree programs have passed the equivalency assessment of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia and are recognized as equal to a Sarjana (S1) degree from an Indonesian university.

Are the degrees the same as those awarded at Deakin in Australia and Lancaster in the UK?

Yes. The awards conferred on DLI graduates are degrees of Deakin University and Lancaster University — the same institutions ranked in the top 200 of the QS World University Rankings. DLI students study within the quality-assurance frameworks of both the UK and Australia, with teaching delivered by DLI faculty supported by academic staff at both home campuses.

Which dual degree programs does DLI offer?

DLI offers five undergraduate dual degree options across Business and Computer Science:

  1. Commerce, Accounting & Finance
  2. Business Analytics
  3. Commerce & Business Management
  4. Computer Science
  5. Cyber Security & Computer Science

All programs are taught in English at the Bandung campus.

Do I need to study overseas to earn both degrees?

No. The full dual degree is completed at the DLI campus in Bandung. Students who wish to gain overseas experience can apply for a study exchange at Deakin in Australia or Lancaster in the UK during their program, subject to academic requirements — but exchange is optional, not required for either award.

What can I do with a DLI dual degree after graduation?

Because you hold a degree from an Australian university and a degree from a UK university — both recognized in Indonesia as equivalent to S1 — you can:

  • Apply for postgraduate study in Australia, the UK, Indonesia, or elsewhere, using whichever award best fits the destination’s requirements
  • Apply for graduate roles in Indonesia with a government-recognized S1-equivalent qualification
  • Present internationally recognized credentials to multinational employers.

How is DLI different from other international universities in Indonesia?

DLI is the only campus in Indonesia where undergraduate students graduate with two bachelor’s degrees from two universities — one Australian (Deakin) and one British (Lancaster) — through a single three-year program. Other foreign university campuses in Indonesia award a single institution’s degree, and some operate at postgraduate level only.

What if I don't meet the entry requirements for the dual degree?

DLI offers a Foundation Program designed specifically for Indonesian students, preparing you for entry into the first year of a dual degree. The foundation year runs for approximately 8 months (two semesters of eight academic modules), making the full pathway – foundation plus dual degree – four years in total.
