Assoc. Professor Maria Jacinta Arquisola is an Associate Professor in the School of Business, Deakin Lancaster Indonesia. With more than 30 years of academic and professional industry experience, Dr Arquisola has worked in the Philippines, Indonesia, and New Zealand. She is a recipient of the prestigious Endeavour Awards for Higher Degree by Research by the Australian Government and the New Zealand Development Award for post-graduate studies.
Dr Arquisola spent 19 years as an academic in one of Indonesia’s private universities, and had completed stints as Vice Rector for Resources, and Dean of the Faculty of Business for 5 years. She helped develop and guided the growth of the university’s various flagship programs, such as the Internship and Career Centre, and its training arm, the Professional Development Centre. Throughout her academic journey, she was a key player in achieving “A” accreditation for various study programs in the business school, as well as international recognition for the university. She represented Indonesia at the DIES Conference on Higher Education Management in Bonn, Germany, in 2017, where her paper was selected as one of the top 20 best papers in the world.
Her approach to teaching is supportive, nurturing, and caring, as well as enhancing students’ confidence in their abilities and skills.
In the Philippines, Dr Arquisola served as a Senior Project Development Manager for various bilateral aid programs for UN – ILO, CIDA, USAID and other international NGOs handling programs in the Philippines’ southern areas. In Indonesia, she worked in the telecoms industry for close to 7 years, helping build one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications providers. She then ventured into consulting and training and had advised and/or trained various MNCs in leadership and HR-focused areas of employee development.
Dr Arquisola has published in many Scopus-indexed journals and has served on the editorial boards of highly-reputable international journals. Her research interests are in leadership, academic leadership and governance, human resource management, career management, work-life balance, organizational development, training and development, and gender studies. Dr Arquisola is currently a member of the Management Society of Indonesian Lecturers as well as the Society for Human Resource Management in the USA.
When not teaching, Dr Arquisola is passionate about anthropology and archaeology and loves to read about new discoveries, scour museums and archaeological sites when traveling abroad. She likes reading, cooking, and playing Scrabble in her spare time.
